Once you've done this you should have no problem reaching a Nicecast server and broadcasting out to the world. And what ports are and why you need the will become apparent as you play with and set up Nicecast. That sounds complicated but it really isn't - most ISPs have a web browser interface that they will give you access to in order to do these very things. You will have to turn off router (and computer) firewalls and allow port connections. The most important thing to accomplishing actual broadcasting is calling your ISP and asking for control of your router, if you have one. This is the tricky part that I got hung up on. They have helped me with multiple weird and random questions I've sent in! It's a real all-in-one application - you can stream music with effects that will allow you to do voice overs from your microphone, do professional quality tone tinkering and even put a karaoke effect on songs. If you have problems, they have a customer support team who are happy to answer any questions you email in within 24 hours. Like almost all Mac applications, Nicecast has a very easy interface and is quite simple to set up.

Once you have that and Nicecast, you'll want to use their manual to set everything up.

The good thing about Nicecast is the provide built in streaming servers that you can practice on so if you decide DJing isn't for you then not only have you got free software but you didn't have to buy a stream to play on!įirst of all you're going to need a program that plays music (like iTunes).

In my searches on the Internets I didn't see any step-by-step guides for how to actually do it though! Hence, I'm publishing one that I hope you'll find helpful. Despite this, I still made it through the hour without being cut off.Nicecast is really the only software out there if you want to be a Second Life DJ on a Mac. I continually dismissed the message, only for it to constantly pop back up. Google also kept popping up a message to me saying that if I continued to play content that I was unauthorized to play, that they would cut me off. My internet upload speed in Tofino is terrible, so I would guess that this was the cause of this awful quality. Even the music speeds up and slows down randomly! Despite it’s poor quality, I will leave it up for those wishing to hear how the streaming sounds, just incase you were thinking of doing this yourself. When you watch the video recording, you can hear obvious artifacts and the quality of the audio is pretty bad. It’s a good way to learn, to get feedback and to critique your own mixes. Hopefully the fact that I am willing to post imperfect mixes, will encourage you all to do the same. Being my first manual beat-matching set in a long time, there’s bound to be a few imperfections. I guess this proves that it’s live and that mistakes can happen. I did find that with so much going on, I was somewhat distracted from the music, which shows in one of my screwed up mixes. You will hear a slight glitch in the first few minutes as the computers started to ‘think’ about something, but other than that there were no technical issues. The booth out was then routed to a second laptop, which was set up to stream live video/audio to Youtube.

I routed this through the Pioneer DJM600 so I can add my XLR mic and send the record out back through the S4 to air it live on deradio.ca using Nicecast. The turntable had Traktor Vinyl timecode controlling deck A and the CDJ was controlling deck B via Advanced HID Mode.Īll were routed through the Kontrol S4 audio card, mixing internally. I used a technics 1210 on my left and a CDJ900 on my right. I had not planned the set, I went into it with no clue of what I was going to play, I just went with the flow. This week I decided to practice what I preach and played my hour set on DE Radio using manual beat-matching skills.
